These writings had been in use from the beginning and had been always considered to be authoritative by believers. There is also an early existing Greek manuscript that has a collection of Paul’s letters. It contains eight of Paul’s letters plus the Book of Hebrews. It has been recently argued that this manuscript should be dated in the late first century; that is, before A.D. The 16th century saw the rise of Protestantism and an explosion of translations of the New (and Old) Testament into the vernacular. Development of the New Testament canon
Early manuscripts mean that the original witnesses to the life of Jesus were (1) available to write the documents we now have, and (2) early observers of Jesus’ life would have been available to deny the testimony of the gospel authors. The continuing discovery of early fragments of New Testament documents corroborates this early dating. The earliest undisputed manuscript of a New Testament book is the John Rylands papyri (p52), dated back from 117 to 138. The only other New Testament book he cited as having authority was the Book of Revelation. Another reason why an authoritative canon had to be universally acknowledged was because of the work of the heretic Marcion. At first, the four gospels were circulating as independent writings among believers. However, by the beginning of the second century, they were brought together and began to be circulated as a unit.

We all have probably made predictions that come true because they are so likely to come true. The significance of an early date for Acts lies in the apparent advantage it gives to the historian of this period.
